Equality must begin at home. The Hurra Coalition is a diverse, intersectional regional movement of women’s rights organisations working to reform discriminatory family laws across the Middle East and North Africa. Hurra means “Free (woman)”. As the name denotes, the coalition aims to free women and girls from all discriminatory family laws.
By securing legal equality within the family, we unlock the potential of women and girls, ultimately driving economic prosperity and sustainable development across the entire region.
Open up the conversation
on sensitive issues like child marriage and marital wealth.
Hold the line
against regressive legal reforms that threaten to undo decades of progress.
Drive long-term change
by supporting national and regional campaigns for reform, including developing egalitarian amendments and building the political will for change.
Free Women. Equal Families. Sustainable Futures.
Legal equality in the family is a prerequisite to a world where every woman and girl can reach their full potential, and countries can enjoy economic prosperity.
“What I care about most is advocating to end early and child marriage. Protecting girls is everyoneʼs responsibility, and every girl has the right to her childhood, to learn, and to dream.”
